Why study poetry? Why wouldn't you want to? Poetry is one of the greatest and truest forms of art. but not only is poetry great but also rewarding. Poetry is the only art form that truly excludes others! why make art for the masses that even undesirables can appreciate when you can simply create a mismatched and misspelled jumble of words with a shallow meaning only the educated can enjoy! The excitement of poetry doesn't end there, not by a long shot! please, allow me to explain.
For starters poetry is amazing! literally any amount words placed on a piece of paper can be considered poetry! for example allow me to demonstrate one of my own personal poems titled "Africa"
Africa
thats wack
my stomach
thats wack
my stomach
This poem, although it may not be clear is about the starving child soldiers in Africa. It boldly comments on social issues too taboo for mainstream media and speaks volumes of the courageousness of the human spirit. Or so ive told others, i'm not quite sure, poetry is magic after all and who am i to question magic? Exactly! A poet.
Poetry is also a great way to make a living! After learning all you can about the marvelous world of poetry try writing your own! poetry now with the help of the internet has a huge market and can be shared around the world. Thousands of chatrooms and forums are filled with eccentric billionaires just itching to get their hands on original poetry i mean who wouldn't want to shell out money by handfull to get their hands on an original piece of poetry hand crafted on your Mac at a starbucks! And in no time at all you'll be on good morning america peddling your 300 page paperback brimming with original and relevant poems. Soon you'll be living the highlife in your hilltop poetry mansion with floor to ceiling poetry windows with your very own poetry infinity pool.
Still not convinced? Poetry can not only make you successful, and pretentious, but happy! when you think of famous poets what is the first thing that comes to mind? thats right! happiness! famous poets are not just famous for their poetry but for their happiness! Just think of two of the most famous poets! Sylvia plath and Edgar Allen poe both lived amazing lives filled with so much joy they wrote poems like "The Happiest Day, the Happiest Hour" and "Poppies In July".
So why study poetry? Poetry makes you smater than everyone around you, poetry makes you rich, and finally poetry makes you happy! So why not study poetry!
