Imagine that you are the editor of a literature anthology and that you must choose three poems
that are related in some way. Review the poems you have been reading and choose three that are
somehow connected to each other. Explain this relationship, giving clear reasons for your
choices. Be sure that your reader knows what unites the three poems and how the poems relate to
each other.

All three of these poems include the idea of giving up on bettering yourself. each poem does this in increasing severity, in "The Main Purpose of the Heart is to Make Heart Sounds" this is simply an idea had in Miras words "...late at night...". In "Sense, Sensibility" this idea is taken into action and the speaker actually gives up on bettering himself. This idea is put to its extreme in "Never Coming Home" where the speaker actually kills himself.
Never Coming Home - Pat "the Bunny" SchneeweisThe trains roll by my porch,
Down here where nothing can live. I’ve been smoking too much because I am no exception. You knew that already, I think. If you want salvation, Then you ought to go see a priest, Because forgiveness from those that we hurt in this world Never was guaranteed. I’m coming home, it’s late again, I’m high as I’ve ever been. You’re sitting up, you’re in our bed crying for a ghost again. No room could be as dark or as empty as ours is, Because I’m at home but I’m not here, and I never am. I wonder how many Friends roll past my house in the night? In boxcars they sleep with hearts stashed in their backpacks. They’ll make California all right. A promise from me Is just a lie I ain’t told yet. So I’m ready to die, but I’m not willing to watch You watch me die here in our bed. I’m lying down, I’ve been nodding out since I don’t know when. The lights are on, you’re standing up screaming at a ghost again. Darling, I’m home, hell I ain’t left this house of ours in days. But I’m not here. I never am, so I just can’t stay. My darling, I’m never coming back from where I’m going. My darling, I’m never coming home. My darling, I’m never coming back from where I’m going. My darling, I’m never coming home. Never coming home again |
The Main Purpose of the Heart is to Make Heart Sounds - Mira Gonzalezthe next time you are driving your car
you will think about that day we had sex in my dad’s bed when the bright sun was shining on us through white curtains and we felt comforted by the inevitability of death I know sometimes late at night we share the same thoughts we think that we only have free will when we are alone and that we don’t want to become better people the newspaper said that the sun erupted tuesday evening and that the higgs boson particle created a ripple in the space time continuum and that beer is good for you I will touch your face using my entire body and we will recall a specific warm morning when we felt numbness in the space between atoms and our mouths tasted like the unattainable closeness of years prior |
Sense, Sensibility - Andrew Jackson Jihadearnesty and clarity
those wonderful mentalities of decent positivity are all that we can scribe but misery and poverty they follow me and my family and though it seems that i can't win i think i have to try everyone's afraid of me they'll never see that we all bleed the same damn blood each night so you'll go your way and i'll go mine i hope we meet later on down the line sense and sensibility and peaceful productivity a pretty girl with broken wings is all that i desire but there's so much hostility in all the things surrounding me the awful glow of enmity is trying to stop me shine so i try to look inwardly at all the things inside of me but sodomy and buggery keep bubbling to the top so you'll go forward and i'll go back i hope we catch up with each other on the track and i've been thinking awkwardly about the things that are holy like Jesus, Joseph, and Mary and Mary Magdalene and even theoretically i don't think i could ever see the perfect human being Jesus lived without sin so you'll go upward and i'll go down you'll go upward and i'll go down you'll go upward and i'll go down i'll see you in hell when we die |
